Model 8210 HSP High Speed Texture Profiler

The Ames HSP Profiler meets or exceeds the following requirements: ASTM E950 Class 1 profiler specifications, AASHTO PP 51-02, and Texas test method TEX 1001-S. The profiler is provided in "kit" form for mounting on your own vehicle. There is no longer any reason to have a specialty vehicle that is used only for profiling. The HSP mounts quickly and easily into any 2" hitch receiver and can be removed for storage or safekeeping.

    System overview:
    · High Speed system mounted on front or rear hitch of vehicle; standard 2” hitch receiver
    · Ruggedized laptop mounted in cab of vehicle with test personnel
    · Single or dual laser systems are available
    · High speed mounting hardware is height adjustable for different vehicles

    Texture Specifications:
    · Capable of collecting measurements at speeds between 1 and 60 mph (1 and 95 kph)
    · Utilizes Selcom Optocator laser measurement sensor
    · Measures texture at 62.5 KHz
    · Ability to measure texture in the macro-texture range (0.5 mm to 50 mm)
    · Adjustable platform allows the sensor to be placed in either wheel track with variable wheel track spacing
    · Wireless or wired ethernet data interface between sensor box and laptop computer
    · System can collect both standard profile and high-resolution texture profile at the same time

    Profiler Specifications:
    · Capable of collecting measurements at speeds between 25 and 60 mph (40 and 95 kph)
    · Laser height sensor with a range of eight inches and a resolution of 0.002 inch (0.05 mm)
    · Horizontal distance measured with an optical encoder that has a resolution of 0.15 inches (3.8 mm)
    · Horizontal distance can also be measured with a Speed Sensor or non-contact Doppler sensor which has a resolution of 0.2 inches
    · Pavement elevation sampling: 16,000 samples per second
    · Pavement elevation sample storage: software selectable 1-16 samples foot
    · Profile wavelength range: 0.5 to 760 feet (0.15 to 231 m)
    · Accelerometer resolution: 0.0001g
    · Data interchange: standard 3.5 IBM compatible floppy disk or Compact Flash (CF) PC card

    System Software:

    Texture Software:
    · Microsoft Windows operating system
    · Display profile in real time while data is being collected
    · Post process software performs the conversion from the time-domain to spatial-domain which allows for accurate Mean Profile Depth (MPD) measurements to be calculated
    · Raw data format can be output in CSV format for the time or spatial domain. Raw data can also be output in the spatial domain for ERD or PRO file formats. These formats can be imported into ProVal or Road Rough software applications
    · High and low pass filtering can be applied to the raw data to allow the user to focus on wavelengths of interest within the macro-texture waveband

    Profiler Software:
    · Microsoft Windows operating system
    · Display profile in real time while data is being collected
    · Calculates Profile Index (PI), International Roughness Index (IRI), Half-car Roughness Index (HRI), Ride Quality Index (RQI), and Ride Number (RN)
    · Plots true profile, California profilograph profile, and rolling straightedge profile
    · Equipped with variable high and low pass filter options
    · Contains automatic bump detection software
    · Capable of displaying "true" profile, rolling straightedge, and California type profilograph profile on screen
    · Identifies location of "out-of-specification" bumps and dips
    · Bumps can be located easily using system's odometer mode
    · Equipped with the following export file options: profile elevation points, Michigan ERD format, Texas PRO format, comma separated variable (CSV) format and generated report tables format (HTML)
    Computer hardware:
    · IBM compatible system with daylight readable screen
    · Panasonic Toughbook 1.66 MHz Intel Core Duo laptop with a 80 GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM
    · Color 13.3" SVGA anti-reflective, outdoor readable touch display screen
    · Wireless or RS-232 serial port connection from laptop to data acquisition computer
    · RS-485 serial network between data acquisition computer and all modules
    · Compact Flash PC card with 256MB memory for fast file transfer
    · High speed wireless(2 inches/second) thermal strip printer for plotting pavement profile at job site
    · All electronic components housed in water resistant and dust tight enclosures
    · Field replacement of any component does not require re-calibration of the system
    · Capable of connecting a second sensor to profile both wheel tracks simultaneously
    · Second sensor is field installable, and can be installed later without modification if you choose.
